Ada is one of Delivery.com's new summer interns. Her recent semester abroad in France inspired her to search out some of the best French fare on Delivery.com. Check out what she found!

I just got back from 5 months in France, and after having French food on the daily I'm craving it wherever I go, at all hours of the day and night. Sadly, you can't easily find a half-decent creperie or a baguette sandwich here in NYC...without doing a little bit of searching, that is.

Luckily, here at Delivery.com we have countless renowned French bistros, bakeries and restaurants starting with "Chez" to order from. So if you're craving a Croque Monsieur, look no further! With this cherry-picked list of French restaurants, you can enjoy a little piece of Paris in the comfort of your own home, and maybe even satiate some nostalgia for "l'Hexagon". Bon appetit!

AOC Restaurant, 314 Bleecker St: This little bistro in the West Village serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus a delectable brunch. Described by Zagat.com as "delicious French comfort food," order from here if you want a gourmet experience at a good price. The menu includes a long list of hors d'oeuvres - from home-made foie gras to the quiche du jour - soups, salads and an endless list of entrees that are quintessentially and deliciously French. And if that doesn't inspire you, AOC even includes some delicious burgers, sandwiches, and pastas.

Brasserie Les Halles, 15 John St: Ever heard of Anthony Bourdain? Yeah, well, Les Halles is his restaurant, with locations uptown on Park Avenue and downtown on John Street. The food served here is authentic French bistro-style food. Try the steak frites, accompanied by pomme frites fried in peanut oil. This, to be sure, is some true haute cuisine.

La Galette Cafe, 177 E 100th St: This little cafe mixes Senegalese and French cuisine. The food is hearty and the portions are generous. Try any one of the mix of French classics (salade Provencale, Croque Monsieur, frites, etc) or the Senegalese plat du jour, such as the Yassa aux Citrons (white rice with grilled chicken and onion, marinated in lemon juice, fresh herbs and Senegalese spices). And to top it off, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing these dishes won't destroy your wallet.

Petit Abeille, 466 Hudson St: Petite Abeille in the West Village may actually be Belgian, but it still offers a great selection of traditionally French food such as salade Nicoise, fresh moules (mussels), and croquettes de fromage, plus a wide range of burgers (try the Petit Abeille burger, a fresh beef patty with bacon, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun with their special sauce). And for dessert, the Belgian style definitely comes in handy when you check out their selection of beautiful Belgian waffles: with names like the Sugar Waffle, Banana Split Waffle and even the Dame Blanche Waffle, you know these waffles are serious biz.

PicNic Market & Cafe, 2665 Broadway: Serving up some serious eats for Francophiles, this little resto on the Upper West Side serves up what Chef Jean-Luc Kieffer calls "nostalgically French cuisine with a twist." Here you can find Alsatian classics such as Choucroute, Tarte Flambe and Spaetzle, as well as traditional French fare, like Cassoulet, Duck Confit, Beef Bourguignon, Coq au Vin and Cheese Souffle.

Sel et Poivre, 853 Lexington Ave: Sel et Poivre (Salt and Pepper) offers diners simple, basic French cuisine for much, much less than the cost of a ticket to France. For lunch, try an assorted cheese plate and Duck a l'Orange, or perhaps maybe Frogs legs Provencal or Calves Liver Lyonnais, if you're feeling adventurous. They also offer baguette sandwiches, such as Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil with Olive Oil, or Grilled Chicken, Lettuce and Tomatoes.

NBA Puts Logos on Pizzas

Love pizza? Love basketball? Now you can enjoy them both together!

USA Today reports that the NBA is rolling out edible team logos that can be applied to pizza. Necessary? No. A great gimmick for next year's playoffs party? Yes.

The logos will be available for all 30 of the NBA's teams next season and will cost about $5.

"The logos won't be sold directly to consumers but to some 1,200 independent pizza parlors nationwide. The paper-thin logos come in 12-pack resealable pouches. The image is placed atop the pizza after it has been fully baked and sliced. The logo then melts into the cheese."

For all the die-hard basketball fans out there, here's hoping that some of the pizza places on Delivery.com receive the logos so you can order them soon!

We're Moving!

Today at Delivery.com, we're packing up our Midtown East offices and getting ready to move a little further downtown! We're excited to be in a new neighborhood, but more than anything, we're pumped that a new zipcode means new restaurant options on Delivery.com!

Don't get us wrong - we've loved the merchants near our Midtown offices. We had great burgers from Pop Burger, enjoyed many a lunch special from Grand Sichuan Chinese and couldn't have asked for a better Friday lunch than Chirping Chicken. (We're having some right now!)

Dog Saves Delivery Man's Day

With all the stories we hear about delivery people getting robbed of their cash and food, it seems like they have pretty dangerous jobs, but now, it looks like delivery people are in luck. The people who bring your pizza and deliver your Chinese food have a new friend on their side - a Boston police K-9.

After a delivery man had his food and money stolen, Boston police used their K-9 unit to follow the smell of the food and find the culprits.

"From just the lingering aroma of buffalo chicken and pepperoni, a calzone and a side of shrimp in the South End Pizza and Grill driver’s two emptied, insulated delivery bags, a police dog sniffed the air and was able to zero in on a pigout party in full swing in an apartment on another floor, and led his handler to the door."

Hopefully the helpful dog got a taste of the food he found!

Merchant of the Week: Dogmatic

This week, we're taking a closer look at Delivery.com merchant Dogmatic - a hot dog shop near Union Square that's putting an end to dirty water dogs with it's gourmet sausages.

Dogmatic first started as a food cart (maybe you saw them on Bleecker Street?), until two years ago when they opened up their storefront on 17th Street.

Since then, Dogmatic has received lots of praise for their unique sausage sandwiches, that will make you think of hot dogs in a whole new way.

Dogmatic's sandwich starts with a crispy, hollowed-out baguette that is toasted from the inside out on a special heated spike. Inside the bread goes the sausage of your choice (beef, chicken, turkey, pork or lamb) and one of Dogmatic's signature sauces, like truffle gruyere, cheddar jalapeno or sundried tomato feta. There's even an option for vegetarians - asparagus spears or as Dogmatic likes to call them, "the sausage of veggies." The sandwiches pair perfectly with one of the restaurant's signature sides, like mac & cheese, and one of their handmade sodas (we like the coconut.)

For those of you who think all hot dogs are unhealthy, think again. Dogmatic's grass-fed beef, free-range chicken and organic turkey are all naturally low in fat. Land NorthEast Thai: I am a runner. My motto is, "I run so I can eat." For anyone else who is a runner, you probably understand that on tough miles you sometimes have to silently chant mantras over and over to keep going. One of my mantras is, "sticky rice. sticky rice. sticky rice." It motivates me to keep running, to finish whatever challenge I've set out on and look forward to getting home to order from Land Northeast Thai through Delivery.com. My favorites from them are: the land salad with beets and delicious peanut sauce, the massman curry chicken (with, of course, a side of sticky rice), the satay appetizer with 3 different skewers of deliciousness, and the mixed appetizers- which gives you a nice sampling of puffy things and dumpling things with 3 different sauces. I often make a meal out of 2 apps, or 1 entree, or I order in an app and an entree and can get 2 full dinners out of it. Whatever you do though, make SURE to save room for the mango sticky rice dessert. As a crazy chocoholic, it's rare that I stray dessert-wise, but this one? Wow. This one is good enough that the thought of it alone can get me through a 10 mile run.

Good Health Cafe: Looks can be deceiving. I've walked past this restaurant a thousand times, but never went inside. This is the exact reason that Delivery.com exists! Eating wonderful food in your own home turns it into a four star meal. Vegetarian bean tacos/enchiladas and amazing guacamole. Unbelievably creamy sweet potato soup. I decided to indulge in the "guilt-free, egg-free, chocolate mousse cake" and OHMYGOD it was, as my dear friend would say INSANELY GOOD. Is it really guilt-free? I kind of doubt it, but it's so worth it anyway.

Gobo: I get delivery frequently from Gobo - one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants in the city. I am not a vegetarian, but I do enjoy tasty, creative foods and that's what you'll find here. I'm totally and completely addicted to the black soymilk bubble tea. And to the shitake caps. And the lettuce wraps. And the New England rolls. And the spinach dumplings. Yum. Sushi Suki: I can eat my weight in sushi. No seriously, for someone who stands 5'2" tall and weighs just slightly more than my dog, I can put away a ridiculous amount of raw fish. I could eat it every day and still not get sick of it. If you look at my Delivery.com order history, you might think I am trying to prove those facts to someone. My favorite place to order from is Sushi Suki. Not only are they crazy fast and perfectly accurate every time, the sushi is beautifully prepared, fresh and delicious consistently. Try it!

PJ Bernstein: Are you feeling a little under the weather? Does your Grandma have other things going on in her life where maybe a call from you sniffling doesn't send her right into make-you-some-homemade-chicken-soup mode? As northern Victoria experiences the worst locust swarms in over 30 years, one pizzeria owner is taking advantage of the insect invasion by trapping them and putting the bugs on his pizzas.

We've definitely heard of people eating these grasshoppers before, but this is the first time we've seen them on top of pizzas. Would you give the creepy crawly pizza a try or would you rather stick with cheese? What's the weirdest pizza topping you've ever had?

Do you need another reason to order in instead of eating out at a restaurant tonight?

We just learned that there is a direct connection between the music a restaurant plays and what we eat! So while you may think you just downed an extra drink because you were thirsty, it might actually be because the restaurant where you're dining is playing extra-loud music.

Apparently, when a restaurant plays music with a fast tempo, diners usually take more bites per minute. Plus, when a restaurant or bar turns up the volume of their tunes, people generally sip their drinks a little more speedily.

So if you're looking to cut down on calories or save some money when you're eating at a restaurant, make sure you pay attention to what you're hearing as well as what you're eating. Or you could always control the soundtrack yourself and order out!

This week's Merchant of the Week is for our friends down under - or just those New Yorkers who love authentic Australian food! Tuck Shop is taking they're their first orders on Delivery.com tonight, so we thought we'd fill you in on the East Village spot before you ordered.

The Aussie restaurant was opened in 2006 by two friends - one from Melbourne and one from Dublin. For the last four years Tuck Shop has been serving up authentic Australian meat pies, sausage rolls and sangers (sandwiches).

In the first edition of the new weekly column, the blog orders in and reviews local spot BBQ Pit. The verdict? "It left me satisfied and wanting more." We can't to see what they have in store for this week.

When popular San Francisco spot Yum Yum House closed in 2008, fans of the Chinese restaurant wondered where they would get their delivery. Luckily, the owners of Yum Yum House opened Big Lantern, where they continue to serve the same great food, just at a different location!

Big Lantern, located in the Mission District, serves traditional Chinese food with a few twists that make it standout from other delivery spots. For example, the restaurant has a large selection of inventive and delicious vegetarian options. Dishes like General Meatless Chicken and Sesame Meatless Chicken allow vegetarian Chinese food-lovers to enjoy classics.

Meat-eaters have plenty of options too, including Twice-Cooked Pork, Mongolian Beef and Kung Pao Lamb. Plus, Big Lantern has a large Dim Sum menu with dishes like BBQ Pork Puffs, Turnip Cakes with Meatless Chicken and Bacon Shrimp Rolls.

Besides the regular cheese options like Caprese and white pies, Pie By The Pound also has a variety of veggie options (we like the sound of the Matzah Potato Pie with ricotta, mozzarella, walnuts and rosemary) and meat pies too. We were so happy to see that the New York Times awarded Delivery.com spot Chin Chin one star today in a review from Sam Sifton.

In his review, Sifton praises the service of Chin Chin, writing, "It’s quiet and polite, a wonderful place to eat. More importantly, though, he recognizes the food, saying, "The point [of Chin Chin] is garlicky minced squab in a lettuce pocket, the sweet of the green neatly extinguishing the barest hint of fire in the fowl. The point is fat pork dumplings fried golden on one side, and a tangle of noodles doused in sesame sauce that is both sweet and salty, fiery and rich."

We just came across this fun video from Zog's Dogs hot dog stand in San Francisco that makes us wish that a running, dancing, jumping man in a hot dog suit delivered all of our food.

In our opinion, this hot dog is tied with these super heroes and this opera singer for coolest delivery guy.

In the News: Satay Junction

We were so excited to see one of our newest merchants, Satay Junction, mentioned in the New York Times this week!

Florence Fabricant had this to say about the new Indonesian joint that recently opened in NYC's West Village.

"Somehow, the partners in the new Satay Junction found a way to shoehorn 16 seats at tables into the sliver that once housed Lassi at 28 Greenwich Avenue (at 10th Street).

It offers an Indonesian street food menu, focused on eight kinds of satays which are served sizzling on tiny tabletop grills. The chef is Durayati Djunaedi, a native of Jakarta. In addition to the satays, which come wrapped in Indonesian newspaper to go, Ms. Djunaedi will be making gado gado, nasi goreng, and mee goreng. Some exotic drinks include avocado juice with chocolate."

Paying Extra For Pizza

Would you be willing to pay a tax on your pizza?

Faced with high healthcare costs and the growing problem of obesity in American, doctors and researchers have suggesting placing surcharges on unhealthy foods and drinks, like pizza and soda, that have high levels of saturated fats or sugars.

What does that mean for you? The study has recommended an 18% tax on these items, which means your $2.75 pizza would now cost $3.25!

Obviously, this is hypothetical (especially in a pizza town like NYC), but with recent talk of restricting - or even banning - salt in restaurants, maybe it could actually go into affect.

What do you think? Should unhealthy foods be taxed? Would you eat less pizza or be willing to pay a little extra for a slice?

Domino's New Recipe: Love It or Hate It?

A while back, we heard about Domino's new pizza recipe that promised an herb and garlic-flavored crust (no more comparisons to cardboard), improved sauce and better cheese.

Now we're hearing that the new recipe is a success! We learned this week that Domino's profits for the year have more than doubled as a result of customers' curiosity regarding the improved pizza.

Though Domino's knows that people are interested in trying their updated pies now, the company's US president says that only time will tell whether people truly like the recipe.

Fighting Over Food

Does this look like the scene in your kitchen when you and your partner try to make dinner?

We just came across this article about how couples, who normally have peaceful relationships, are often at each others' throats when it comes to cooking dinner. From battling about the dishwasher to arguing over what to cook in the first place, it seems like the kitchen is a prime spot for fights.

One one hand, we're happy we can avoid all the arguments that accompany cooking. We order out often and don't really have many fights about who has the best recipe. On the other hand, we have to admit that we've had our fair share of fights over which restaurant to order from! They usually start like this:
"What do you want to eat?"
"I don't know. What do you want?"
And end with us ordering the regular from our favorite neighborhoods restaurant on Delivery.com (not a bad resolution.)

Mispronouncing the Menu

No matter how often we eat some foods, we still can get confused about how to pronounce them! So we were happy to come across not one, but two pieces today on the correct pronunciation of some tricky menu items.

The Chicago Tribune's list of the "Top 10 Mispronounced Foodie Words" spells outs the correct way to say bruschetta (broo-SKEH-tah), huitlacoche (wheet-lah-KOH-chay) and more. Grub Street weighs in on the issue with their own list, which includes tagliatelle (tahl-ya-TELL-eh), niçoise (nee-SWAhs) and the dreaded gewürztraminer (ge-VOORTZ-tra-meener). We're still not sure we'll be ordering that last one any time soon.

Tipping on Pizza Delivery

How much do you tip your pizza delivery person?

Over at Slice, a pizza delivery girl shared her thoughts on how much customers should tip when they order pizza for delivery.

Her basic guidelines include a $3 minimum tip on any order with extra cash for inclement weather, special or complicated orders and deliveries made outside of the restaurant's delivery range.

She also reminds us that though a delivery person may be dropping off your food, any problems with your order are probably not their fault...unless you're a notoriously bad tipper.

"Late pizza is rarely the driver's fault. Call the store and complain. Same with cold pizza. Though if your pizza is always late and always cold it could be because you are a bad tipper and the driver is hoping you'll get tired of it and stop ordering from there."

The BA Foodist penned an article outlining his top 5 reasons to stay at home this Sunday. He backs up his argument with a few not-so-nice problems that seem to plague restaurants every February 14th, including over-crowding, mediocre food and, of course, inflation.

As if its not already hard enough to get a dinner reservation on Valentine's Day, apparently now there are reservation scalpers!

We just came across this story about a website, 911reservations.com, that was snatching up prime dinner reservations at popular restaurants and then selling them. While the site seems to be down now, there are still people selling reservations on Craigslist.

It's a bad situation for both diners and restaurants and, in our eyes, just another reason we're opting to order in our Valentine's Day dinner.

Egg Rolls & Opera: A Singing Delivery Man

A local NYC Chinese restaurant has a delivery man that does a whole lot more than bring dinner to your doorstep - he also sings opera!

Yang Yu Bao, who is featured on the restaurant's website, works as a delivery man at China Fun to pay the bills, but his true passion is Beijing Opera. He says that he doesn't perform much anymore (with the exception of the China Fun Chinese New Year's party), but if you ask nicely, he may just sing you a song when he's dropping off your dinner.

What's your name and occupation?
My names is Yang Yu Bao and I am a delivery man at China Fun.

How did you wind up being both an opera singer and a delivery man?
I emigrated to the US from Tianjin, China, and making deliveries supports my family and supplements my hobby--Beijing Opera, a type of traditional Chinese theatre that combines music, songs, mime, dance and acrobatics.

When do you perform Beijing Opera?
Back in Tianjin, I learned that craft from a schoolmate's brother-in-law and I performed in tea houses in the city. Nowadays, I mostly do it on my days off with friends and every once in a while in public--such as at the China Fun Staff party for Chinese New Year!

What is your favorite opera?
That would be excerpts from "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" (a famous epic in Chinese history) and anything sung by Mr. Pavarotti.

Have you ever been tempted to sing an aria for a customer?
Unfortunately, I don't think most customers would know what I was doing and like it. But of course, I would--if requested.

What are you favorite items on the China Fun menu?
Lobster and Ginger and Scallions when the tips are good and I really want to treat myself; Chicken and Broccoli when the tips are light.

Taco Bell's Drive-Thru Diet

Between watching the ball drop and endless bowl games this weekend, did you happen to catch the ads for Taco Bell's new Drive-Thru Diet campaign?

A la Subway's Jared, the fast food joint has found a new real-life spokesperson (Christine) who swears by the diet. Sure, she also decreased her calorie intake to 1250 calories per day, but Taco Bell tells us that the real secret to her success was the Fresco items on their Drive-Thru Diet menu.

The best part? The disclaimers, which include, "Drive-Thru Diet is not a weight-loss program," and "Not a low calorie food." All of the details can be found on the Drive-Thru Diet website.

A Whole Lotta Latkes

Hanukkah ends on Friday! Have you gotten your fix of latkes yet?

A couple of days ago our partner site Eats.com checked out this fun take on the traditional Hannukah food - latkes from Fancy Fast Food made exclusively with ingredients from Wendy's. We love the fast food approach to the potato pancake, but Fancy Fast Food definitely doesn't have the last word when it comes to latkes. It turns out there are a ton of recipes (some crazier than others) and even more opinions about latkes.

NachosNY (yes, an entire site about nachos) has a great recipe for latkchos (latkes + nachos), complete with potato pancakes, applesauce, sour cream and a cheese sauce. Yep, you eat it all together.

AlwaysHungry rounded up some of the best latkes in NYC. In their opinion, your best bet for a Hanukkah meal at a restaurant should be at Park Ave Winter or Veselka.

In Cambridge, MA the chefs from some of Harvard Square's best restaurants served up over 500 free latkes last weekend at an outdoor celebration.

And in L.A., there's latkes aplenty as well. LAist offers up some of their picks for the best latkes - and Hanukkah cupcakes too!

Peep Show

Easter may be months away, but that's not stopping Peeps from opening their first ever store.

The people behind those fluffy, yellow marshmallow chicks that are part of every child's Easter basket are setting up shop in National Harbor, Maryland, right outside of Washington D.C.

So what else will the story carry besides the sweet treats? The Peeps website says the shop will have all things Peeps, including apparel, gear, china, toys and a glowing five-foot Peeps chick, which could be awesome or totally terrifying. You decide...

Pot Paella & Laced Lasagna!

Forget about putting pot in your brownies. Why not try pot paella instead?

That is just one of the dishes being served up at Ganja Gourmet, a new medical marijuana restaurant that opened this week in Denver.

Rather than dispensing marijuana regularly to patients, the facility decided to change things up and serve it in a variety in foods instead.

Besides the paella, Ganja Gourmet will also be dishing out lasagna, pizzas, jambalaya, chocolate mousse and cheesecake.

Naturally, the restaurant's employees will be decked out in tie-dye and just in case any of the diners indulge in a few too many slices of pizza, the staff will be on hand to offer rides home.

Jeter's Delivery Debacle

Sometimes we're lucky enough to get something extra when we order out - like bread or some additional fortune cookies - but we've never had a delivery experience quite like the one Derek Jeter had last night.

The Yankee ordered from one of his regular spots, Nino's Positano, but when the delivery came, he got a lot more than his dinner. Apparently, the hostess took Jeter's order, freaked out when she realized who she was on the phone with, begged the delivery guy to let her come along and then tried to bring the food to Jeter herself. After trying to get by the doorman and announcing she was Jeter's "biggest fan," the hostess was escorted out of the building by security and promptly fired. Pie Today, Cookies Tomorrow

Its National Apple Pie Day!

Personally, we think its a little late in the year for this celebration (we baked our fair share of apple pies back in September and October), but we'll never turn down dessert. So to celebrate the holiday, here's a simple, classic recipe for the dessert from the Joy of Baking.

Pate Brisee (Short Crust Pastry):

2 1/2 cups (350 grams) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoon (30 grams) granulated white sugar

1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, chilled, and cut into 1 inch (2.54 cm) pieces

1/4 to 1/2 cup (60 - 120 ml) ice water

Apple Filling:

2 1/2 pounds (1.1 kg) apples (about 6 large), peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick (about 8 cups sliced) (about 900 grams sliced)

1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated white sugar

1/4 cup (55 grams) light brown sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons (28 grams) unsalted butter

1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon (15 grams) cornstarch (corn flour)

Garnish:

Softly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Pate Brisee: In a food processor, place the flour, salt, and sugar and process until combined. Add the butter and process until the mixture resembles coarse meal (about 15 seconds). Pour 1/4 cup (60 ml) water in a slow, steady stream, through the feed tube until the dough just holds together when pinched. If necessary, add more water. Do not process more than 30 seconds.

Turn the dough onto your work surface and gather into a ball. Divide the dough in half, flattening each half into a disk, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about one hour before using. This will chill the butter and relax the gluten in the flour.

After the dough has chilled sufficiently, remove one portion of the dough from the fridge and place it on a lightly floured surface. Roll the pastry into a 12 inch (30 cm) circle. (To prevent the pastry from sticking to the counter and to ensure uniform thickness, keep lifting up and turning the pastry a quarter turn as you roll (always roll from the center of the pastry outwards).) Fold the dough in half and gently transfer to a 9 inch (23 cm) pie pan. Brush off any excess flour and trim the edges of the pastry to fit the pie pan. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator.

Then remove the second round of pastry and roll it into a 12 inch (30 cm) circle. Transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator.

Make the Apple Filling: In a large bowl combine the sliced apples, sugars, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Let the apples macerate at room temperature for about two hours. Then, place the apples and their juices in a strainer that is placed over a large bowl (to capture the juices). Let the apples drain for about 15-30 minutes or until you have at least 1/2 cup (120 ml) of juice. Spray a 4 cup (960 ml) heatproof measuring cup with a nonstick vegetable spray, and then pour in the collected juices and the 2 tablespoons (28 grams) of unsalted butter. Place in the microwave and boil the liquid, on high, 6 to 7 minutes or until the liquid has reduced to about 1/3 cup and is syrupy and lightly caramelized. (Alternatively, you could place the juices and butter in a small saucepan and boil over medium high heat on the stove.)

Meanwhile, remove the top pastry crust from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes so it has time to soften and become pliable. Transfer the drained apples slices to a large bowl and mix them with the cornstarch (corn flour). Then pour the reduced syrup over the apples and toss to combine. Pour the apples and their syrup into the chilled pie crust. Moisten the edges of the pie shell with a little water and then place the top crust over the apples. Tuck any excess pastry under the bottom crust and then crimp the edges using your fingers or a fork. Using a sharp knife, make five 2-inch (5 cm) slits from the center of the pie out towards the edge of the pie to allow the steam to escape. Cover the pie with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to chill the pastry while you preheat the oven.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Place the oven rack at the lowest level and place a baking stone or baking sheet on the rack before preheating the oven. Place a piece of aluminum foil on the stone (or pan) to catch any apple juices.

Set the pie on the stone or pan and bake for about 45 to 55 minutes or until the juices start to bubble through the slits and the apples feel tender (not mushy) when a toothpick or sharp knife is inserted through one of the slits. Make sure to cover the edges of the pie with a foil ring to prevent over browning after about 30 minutes.

Remove the pie from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool for about 3-4 hours before cutting. Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or softly whipped cream. Store at room temperature for 2 to 3 days.

Makes one 9 inch (23 cm) pie.

We just came across stilltasty.com, a great site that lets you know how long your leftovers last.

The site calls itself the "ultimate shelf life guide" and lets you know whether you should keep that week-old Chinese food in your fridge, or toss it. All you have to do is type in the food item and the results let you know how long it will last in your fridge, freezer or pantry.

Our eyes are often (ok, usually) bigger than our bellies and we end up ordering or cooking too much all the time. This site could definitely help out in those cases. Plus, its just fun to play with! Did you know dry pasta is good for three years?

Yesterday we gave you a bunch of ideas for cooking your turkey this Thanksgiving, but if you are looking for something a little less traditional, now we have a recipe for that too!

Even though we're always ordering out, this Thanksgiving we're taking a break from the dinner deliveries. Of course, we still ordered our groceries, wine and more on Delivery.com, but this year instead of having dinner cooked and sent to our door, we're going to cook ourselves. Take-out & Total Strangers: A Blog About Delivery

Love getting delivery so much you could blog about it? Thats exactly what Zoe Blackler did!

Blackler, an English journalist and recent transplant to New York, has found an interesting way to taste some of the city's cuisine and meet some native New Yorkers at the same time. Best of all, she's doing it all with delivery and documenting it on her blog Nail Soup.

The description on her site explains it all:

"I’m traveling around the city reviewing take-out food. I’m asking strangers I find through social media like Twitter and Facebook to welcome me into their homes and share my take-out. The posts I write will be about the food I eat, the places I visit and the people I meet."

So who has she met and what has she eaten so far? Blackler started with an order from Five Front shared with a couple in DUMBO. Since then she's ordered from Michaels on Long Beach (with a jewelry maker), Osha Thai Kitchen on the Upper East Side (with a former “Big Brother” contestant), Madras Mahal in Murray Hill (with a “billionaire”) and Sacred Chow in the West Village (with a fellow geek).

In all of her reviews, Blackler offers thorough, honest and insightful thoughts on the food. In her most recent entry, she wrote this about dinner from Sacred Chow:

"We’d ordered five small dishes. The pumpkin risotto was delightful on flavour, but during the time it had sat on the back of a delivery bike had become soggy and sticky. Since risotto is one of those dishes meant to be rushed to the table, this wasn’t the best choice for take-out.
I was surprised to be won over by the tofu. This wasn’t superfluous chunks of gunk meant to serve as some sort of meat substitute but rather lightly grilled with taste and texture."

But as much as this is a blog about food, it is also a study of people and the very interesting things you can learn about someone when sharing a takeout meal for the first time. As detailed as Blackler is in her review of the cuisine, she's even more meticulous in her descriptions of her fellow diners. By writing about what they do, where they come from and taking a peak inside their homes, she reveals to her readers who these people are and – sometimes – why they are willing to eat take-out with someone they met on Twitter.

She wrote this about one of her hosts:

"The other room is Kurt’s study, dominated by a huge desk where he’s working on his second novel, and a wall of shelves behind, stuffed with retro titles in mid 20th century type on faded covers, including a whole section of ‘50s crime stories. On the opposite wall he’s stuck pages torn from a novel he’s studying, marked up with coloured pen to show the appearance of new characters and plot devices.Kurt looks very at ease at this desk, posing for his portrait with feet up, pen in hand, like some hard-boiled hack, or private dick, while his stereo chucks out big band jazz. He’s tall and handsome with a wry sense of humour (meaning he laughs at my jokes) and clearly loves having his picture taken."

Thanksgiving: Delivery or Homemade?

"Despite signs that the recession may be ending, restaurant customers say they plan to spend about 20 percent less per meal in 2010 than they did this year, according to a new study.
The study by business consultant AlixPartners LLC surveyed 1,000 consumers, who said they plan to spend an average of $11.49 per meal next year. In a similar survey the company performed nine months ago, respondents reported spending an average of $13.25 per meal."

This article took a look at a survey involving over 2,600 people and found out that the beer your drink has much more to do with your personality than you may think.

What kind of car do you drive? Who do you vote for? Do you play the lotto? Apparently just taking a look at what is on your bar tab can help answer some of these questions. So what kind of beer are you? Take a look at some of the results below or check out the full article here.

Budweiser:

"Bud drinkers are sensible, grounded and practical. They are the polar opposite of daydreamers and don't easily get carried away."

Bud Light:

"These good-time guys and gals are accepting of most everyone and generally easy to get along with."

"Michelob Ultra drinkers rate high in superiority; that is, they think highly of themselves and can be a little bit conceited. They care what other people think about them and want to appear perfect."

Are restaurant servers held to higher standards than delivery people?

Yesterday, the NY Times released part one of "101 Things Restaurant Staffers Should Never Do." The long list of no-no's came from Bruce Buschel, who, on the eve of building a new seafood restaurant, got to thinking about how his future servers should act.

Part one of the list covers everything from addressing customers (38. Do not call a man "dude." 39. Do not call a woman "lady") to opening champagne (29. Do not pop a champagne cork. Remove it quietly, gracefully. The less noise the better.) You can check out the whole list here.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries

This morning on Diner's Journal, Sam Sifton weighed in on Five Guys Burgers & Fries and we're happy to report, that the NY times food critic had good things to say about the burgers:

"a crisp exterior giving way to a mineral interior, with as much flavor coming from the mayonnaise, cheese, salt and fresh jalapeño as from the meat...the burger — canvas for the oils of its friends, a true in-and-out pleasure on its soft bun. Pretty great."

And he enjoyed the fries too:

"Fresh-cut, peanut-oil-fried potatoes? Yes, and there were more than enough of these to feed the Journal and his thieving brother. Five Guys does excellent fries: salty and firm. (Douse them in vinegar, not ketchup.)"
